新河浦 Xinhepu

Xinhepu

It is one of the most popular historic and vibrant areas in Guangzhou. It is also an old educational district with a rich cultural heritage.
About
Located in Dongshan, Guangzhou, the Xinhepu area spans approximately 62.9 hectares. Its boundaries extend from Dadao Road in the east to Junyi Road in the west and from Miaoqian West Street and Sibei Tongjin in the north to Donghua East Road, Xinhepu River, and Dongshan Lake Park in the south. This vibrant district encapsulates a rich blend of history and culture, making it a significant landmark in the city.

The Xinhepu historical and cultural area is the largest complex low-rise courtyard style that seamlessly blends Chinese and Western architectural influences in Guangzhou. Designated as one of the first "historical and cultural protection areas" in the city, this block features over 400 red brick courtyard houses that reflect a rich historical heritage. Here, diverse cultures coexist harmoniously, enriched by significant landmarks such as the "Five Chinese-Western Style Houses," which exemplify the connections to overseas Chinese heritage.

In recent years, Yuexiu District has launched the "Dongshan Impression" brand, introducing innovative concepts like art studios, boutique shops, and distinctive homestays. The district has also promoted time-honoured brands to enhance the vitality of small businesses while showcasing the unique charm of traditional shops. These initiatives are part of the broader "Revitalization Project of Xinhepu Historical and Cultural Area," aimed at breathing a new lifestyle into this historic area.
